Property in Cambridge

Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209 and consistently ranked one of the top five universities in the world. The 29 colleges are scattered throughout the City and, along with dozens of medieval and later buildings help to create the historic atmosphere. Today, Cambridge is at the heart of the high-technology and bioscience industries.

Why choose Cambridge?

The city is compact and rich in green spaces, including Jesus Green and Midsomer Common which border the River Cam, Parkers Piece near the centre, and the impressive Botanic Gardens. The shopping scene is lively, broad-reaching and contemporary, as well as being highly accessible by bus and on foot. State and private schooling are both exceptional, though there are often lengthy waiting lists for both.

Two rail lines give access to London in as little as 50 minutes to Kings Cross. For those commuting into the centre there are comprehensive bus services including four Park and Ride sites and the Guided Bus giving access from the north and south sides.

Getting around in central areas is best done by bicycle – the city is not car friendly as is very prone to congestion. Stansted Airport is 30 minutes by car or train, Heathrow about 75 minutes outside peak times.

Property in Cambridge can be hard to come by and the market here is highly competitive at all budget levels, with many properties trading hands off-market particularly at the higher end. The average house price is the highest in the UK outside London, having quadrupled between 1995 and 2014.
