Positioned in central England, between Buckinghamshire and the Cotswolds to the south and west, and Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire to north and east, Northamptonshire is a county that offers something for everyone who lives here. It’s often referred to as England’s best-kept secret.
With excellent road and rail links to both London and the Midlands, it’s easily accessible from all directions. Here you can choose to step into the traditional rural lifestyle typified by Northamptonshire’s numerous pretty and unspoilt villages, including the popular locations of East Haddon, Stoke Bruerne and Byfield. Thatched cottages, country lanes and ancient churches abound as you wind you way through the county often called the Rose of the Shires.
At the other end of the spectrum, Northamptonshire is a region offering many modern attractions and facilities, including the home of UK motor sport at Silverstone, the Rockingham racetrack as well as the racecourse at Towcester. In and around the main market towns of Northampton itself, Corby, Brackley, Oundle and Daventry there are excellent leisure facilities with great shops, restaurants, museums, theatres and cinemas.
Home to quintessential rolling English countryside, this is a part of the country where you can go on mile-long walks, stroll around beautiful country parks and along peaceful canal paths. The county also boasts many grand stately homes including that of Althorp, the ancestral seat of the Spencer family.
