My Area – Devon & Cornwall
With a property search area covering some of the most picturesque parts of the country, we are on hand to act as your buying agent in Devon and Cornwall and the surrounding counties and take the hassle out of looking for your next home.
Devon
The north and south coasts have both cliffs and sandy shores. However, the north coast is perhaps the more dramatic with wide open beaches and soaring cliffs, whereas the south coast is less rugged with outcrops of sandstone being drained by five rivers.
Inland the area is mostly hilly and rural having a relatively low population with Dartmoor being the largest open space in southern England.
Devon is blessed with many picturesque historic towns and villages as well as the larger cities of Plymouth and Exeter. Barnstaple in the north of the county is the largest town and main business centre with the small towns of Ilfracombe and Bideford nearby. Coastal villages such as Croyde and Saunton offer wide open beaches, whereas Clovelly further down the coast is famous for its steep pedestrian approach and known throughout the world.
Cornwall
Although known for its coastal towns and villages Cornwall has many hidden treasures inland with the wildness of Bodmin Moor and the infamous Jamaica Inn being the best known. Moving further west Penwith beyond Penzance is studded with pre-historic boulders and pretty villages such as St. Buryan which is close to the world famous open air Minack Theatre. Created and carved from solid rock by Dame Edith Cade in the 1930s.
Warmed by the Gulf Stream Cornwall generally enjoys mild weather throughout the year and the quality of light is something that artists first recognized more than one hundred and thirty years ago with the formation of The Newlyn School. At the same time artists were also beginning to settle in St. Ives and today we have Tate St. Ives together with the Barbara Hepworth museum.
Cornwall offers a wide choice of property from contemporary coastal apartments, to charming granite and slate country cottages, together with gracious country houses with acreage. Properties with water views will undoubtedly command a premium. Particularly in villages such as Fowey, St. Mawes and Helford on the south coast together with St. Ives, Padstow and Rock on the north coast.
Clients intending to purchase for retirement will find that many of the small towns and villages offer a warm welcome and encourage newcomers to settle. Some villages even prepare a welcome pack helping people to move more easily.
Cornwall is the UK’s favourite holiday destination. So for those wishing to purchase as a holiday let excellent yields can be achieved. However, those seeking to enjoy their second home for their own recreation can if they wish readily become involved with local activities.
