Truro is a port and an administration centre that now has city status being home to the county court and the cathedral. Cornwall Council also has it’s main offices in Truro and Treliske hospital which serves the whole county is also just outside the city.

In 1880 the foundation stones for the cathedral were laid on the site of the 16th century parish church of St Mary the Virgin. Completed in 1910 the cathedral remains an active part of the local community, welcoming people from all over the world.

Georgian town houses built of Bath stone line the streets and although national stores such as Marks and Spencer are represented together with the imminent arrival of Waitrose, it also has a thriving independent sector.

There are numerous entertainment facilities and the opening of The Hall for Cornwall in 1996 brought live theatre to a larger audience which hosts major international artists.

Other buildings of note include Coinage Hall and the Royal Cornwall Museum which is the county’s oldest museum, and it’s here that you can discover more about the area’s unique culture.

The city’s parks and gardens provide a mix of wonderful plants and trees as well as offering sporting amenities. Sitting beside the river Kenwyn, Victoria Gardens are filled with exotic trees, shrubs and flowers, and on summer Sundays concerts are held in the bandstand.

Boscawen Park is the city’s primary open space and a popular spot for sport lovers. With tennis courts, cricket and football pitches together with plenty of space for children to play. There is also a river ferry service nearby with regular trips to Falmouth which makes for an exciting day out.
